Fulshear Chargers Volleyball Team Looking to Continue State Climb

In just eight years since its establishment, Fulshear has risen to become a dominant force in Texas high school volleyball, a trend that continued unabated in 2023.

Three years ago, head coach Sydney Zimmerman, in her second season (2019-2020), led the Chargers to a Class 4A championship, followed by reaching the Class 5A State Final the next season.

Now, Fulshear (40-4; 14-0 in district) is heading back to Garland, Texas, to compete in the UIL State Tournament. Yet again, they’re a team to watch.

Sarcasm aside, Zimmerman has observed a unique quality in this year’s squad. “This team is exceptionally unique,” she remarked. “They’re incredibly energetic and have a close-knit bond off the court, which translates into their on-court synergy. Their enjoyment of the game is unparalleled compared to any team I’ve coached.”

Zimmerman has indeed crafted a dynasty at Fulshear, with the team making frequent appearances at this stage. “Success has become a habit here,” Zimmerman explained. “Setting the bar high early on established our standard. Therefore, missing the State Tournament would now be a letdown. It’s this high expectation we thrive on.”

The standout stars this season include Wake Forest-commit Bailey Warren (Jr. OH). “I’ve mentored many talented outside hitters, some even All-State and college players,” Zimmerman said. “Bailey stands out. She’s not just talented; she’s well-rounded and poised on the court, exhibiting finesse and leadership skills. She’s reminiscent of her sister, Brielle, yet possesses her own unique flair.”

Warren’s impact is significant, but she’s not alone.

Lauren Witte, Sydney Black, Yosola Adeleke, Alexys James, and Avery Pruitt have all made significant contributions, forming one of the most formidable rotations in the state.

As the H-Town representatives prepare to face Class 5A powerhouse Lovejoy this Friday at 1 PM, they’re ready to showcase their true mettle.

“For this group, none were on the varsity team three years ago,” Zimmerman reflected. “They’ve been to the Regional Tournament, but this experience is somewhat new. The 2019 championship is a frequent topic of discussion, and it fuels their ambition.”

“This team thrives under high expectations. We seem to perform better against teams that challenge us, and that’s what we’re expecting this weekend.”

Two more victories and Fulshear’s legacy will be further cemented.
